Despite the pioneering work done by M. L. Cameron in the 1980s much of the source scholarship relating to the Old English corpus of Medical texts remains unfinished. This paper will demonstrate the necessity for such source scholarship by examining a selection of anatomical terms in Old English and demonstrating how Cameron’s early conclusions on the meaning of anatomical terms may be improved upon if a wider corpus of Latin sources for the Old English medical text known as the Leechbook of Bald is compiled.
