This talk has been canceled/deleted Seminar by Dr James Hobro Principal Research Scientist, Schlumberger Cambridge Research Understanding Open Source Software and Licensing Software licences can often be confusing, but it is important to understand the essential conditions of the main licences we are likely to encounter when building our own software. In this seminar, Dr James Hobro will cover the origins of open source and proprietary software, explain the motivations behind the free software and open source movements and how their different licences are used in software today. James will provide a basic map of the landscape of licences you are likely to encounter, with some practical suggestions to help ensure licence compliance and avoid common misunderstandings.
