How can we maintain meaning in local languages, despite necessity for English translation for PhD writing and publishing? When we need to work with a translator, what should we look for in accurate translation? Does your relationship with your translator matter? How this can affect fieldwork interviews? We will explore language and ‘ownership’ – how do we navigate the notion of ‘mother tongue’ vs ‘the other’ language, either in our academic writing or our fieldwork interactions.
