Lord Hannay was minister at the British Embassy in Washington DC and was then promoted to ambassador and permanent representative to the European Communities. He was involved in the negotiations that led to the UK ’s entry into the European Communities. From 1990 to 1995, he was ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations and currently serves as the Chair of UNA -UK Board of Directors. He will be speaking about his new book, ‘”New World Disorder: how should the international community best respond?” which talks of the UN after the Cold War. Lord Hannay has been serving in the foreign and commonwealth office (FCO) for his entire career and has outstanding experience on both the UN and the FCO .
