Fieldwork has long been seen as integral to Earth Sciences, and discussions over its role and prominence are often highly charged. Although a key way to learn many geological concepts, fieldwork is undoubtedly exclusionary in nature, and conversations around the future of fieldwork must consider how best to make it as accessible and inclusive as possible. I will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities that fieldwork presents, and share resources to help promote inclusivity. Suggested reading: https://doi.org/10.1038/s43017-020-0022-5.
