So what’s wrong with the compound microscope? Not a lot, but after 300 years, inventors Andrew Monk and Richard Williams thought it would be nice to put a lab quality microscope in your pocket and connect it to your mobile phone. It turns out that re-engineering the microscope allows scientists to carry out important primary research and education in The Amazon, Antarctica and even on Everest with a 1 micron resolution. In this talk, Andrew guides the audience through the development of ioLight’s Magnificent Mobile Microscope from sketches on beermats to ascending Everest.

Andrew Monk is passionate about transferring technology to the market and has led startups across a number of disciplines. He founded ioLight Ltd with Richard Williams and they are now putting microscopes in the pockets of leading scientists and educators.
