Emiway Bantai was born on November 13, 1995 (age 23; like 2018) in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. He was born as Sheikh Bilal in a middle-class Muslim Orthodox family. His family has roots in Karnataka.

He then adopted the stage name “Emiway”, a combination of the names of Eminem and Lil Wayne, ie Emi for Eminem and Way for Wayne. He studied at the LHS in Mumbai.

Emiway was good at learning through grade 10, but turned to rap when he reached grade 11. He failed in the 12th standard and experienced depression. It was very tiring to learn hip hop music.

Bantai first started making rap videos for entertainment, but after receiving an impressive response, he started taking rap seriously.
