Paul Shellard is Professor of Cosmology at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) in the University of Cambridge. After completing his PhD in DAMTP , he held research fellowships at Trinity College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, before taking up a faculty position in Cambridge. Paul’s research endeavours to advance the confrontation between mathematical theories of the early universe and observational cosmology. His current interests focus on the properties of the cosmic microwave background – the relic radiation left over from the Big Bang – and on primordial gravitational waves. He is also Director of the Stephen Hawking Centre for Theoretical Cosmology in DAMTP . Paul is married to Sophia and has four children.
