Nuclear power stations are always controversial; do you support or oppose the use of nuclear energy as one of the ways to provide electricity? A new nuclear paradigm, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are a type of nuclear fission reactor which are smaller than conventional reactors, manufactured at a plant and brought to a site to be fully constructed. This lecture describes the issues, challenges and progress to date on the development of a UK industrial SMR solution. This talk is part of the Engineering Department Nuclear Energy Seminars series.
