If you have a question about this talk, please contact Judd Birdsall. In this talk based on his recent book, Dr Robert Joustra will explore how conflicting understandings of the meaning and practice of the religious and the secular lead to several rival public perspectives about religious freedom, with significant implications for the Western foreign policy effort to promote religious freedom internationally. Joustra will argue for a principled pluralist approach to the religious and the secular as a way to think outside the ‘religious problem’ and productively enlist and engage the forces of religion resurging around the globe.
