Orthodox Judaism is currently one of the most attractive fields of research within Jewish studies, with dozens of original monographs and articles published every year examining the subject from an anthropological, historical, or sociological perspective. Only a handful have noticed, however, that the very paradigm through which current researchers approach the topic is inherently flawed.
