Stephen Halliday read History at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and is currently a professor at the Business School of Buckinghamshire New University. He specialises in the study of the engineers and builders of Victorian London, and his publications include The Great Stink of London (1999), Underground to Everywhere (2001), Making the Metropolis (2003) and Water: A Turbulent History (2004).
