The increasing incidence of the metabolic disease diabetes is promoting the exploration of novel glucose monitoring methodologies to ensure effective diabetes management. In particular, many groups are investigating new non-invasive and continuous glucose sensors, in order to obviate the pain and consequent patient incompliance associated with conventional finger-pricking assays. In our group, novel holographic technology has been applied to the development of a real-time glucose monitor. This research has shown that pain-free glucose monitoring of diabetics in feasible.
