2014 is going to be a significant year in the history of the QEC project with the naming ceremony and float up of the first of class HMS Queen Elizabeth occurring in the summer, and preparations for the start of power generation trials in the basin getting underway. This lecture will provide a background to the project and describe the progress that has been made on building and outfitting the two aircraft carriers. Some of the key technologies within the ships will be described.
