This seminar will present a qualitative research project that was based on the theory of Social Imaginary (Catoriadis,1982; Baczo,1984). The main objective of this research was to analyze: (a) the teacher’s ‘imaginary’ about their students and their own feelings of insecurity in two Brazilian schools; (b) some of the school violence prevention policies implemented in Brazil. Among the policies that we will present are the analysis of Justice and Education project and a partnership for citizenship and the São Paulo State School Protection System. These projects have the aim of training mediators to act in school conflicts. They are built on perspectives restorative justice and conflict mediation.

This talk is part of the Education, Equality and Development (EED) Group Seminars series.
