If you have a question about this talk, please contact Enterprise Tuesday.

A central question in entrepreneurship is when and how do people recognise an opportunity that is worth pursuing? Should it be ideas that are evident in the market place based on alertness? Should it be about deep research that leads to ideas of how to disrupt markets? And when should we pursue them? Is it only when they offer watertight business cases or when they get us excited? In other words, what is the typical anatomy of an opportunity?

We kickstart the new series of Enterprise Tuesday in what is the tenth anniversary year of the Centre for Entreprenurial Learning (CfEL) with contributions from two illustrious speakers.

Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, MA, PhD, FRS , FRCP, FmedSci, is the 345th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge. He was knighted in the 2001 New Year’s Honours List for his contribution to medical education and research into developing vaccines, including work towards a vaccine to combat cervical cancer.

Dr Hermann Hauser CBE FR Eng has wide experience in developing and financing companies in the information technology sector. He co-founded the Acorn Computer Group plc and subsequently became vice president of research at Olivetti. During his tenure at Olivetti, he established a global network of research laboratories. Since leaving Olivetti, Hermann has founded over 20 technology companies. In 1997, he co-founded Amadeus Capital Partners. Hermann is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and of the Royal Academy of Engineering and an Honorary Fellow of King’s College, Cambridge. In 2001 he was awarded an Honorary CBE for ‘innovative service to the UK enterprise sector’. Hermann Hauser has been a Visiting Entrepreneur since 2003.
