This talk will discuss Mascolo’s team’s work on the use of data from microphones of wearables and smartphones for health diagnostics and progression. We will concentrate on the potential of sounds in the context of respiratory health with examples of work in the context of COVID -19 (https://covid-19-sounds.org/) as well as respiratory tract infection progression (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/primarycare/reload.page). Further ongoing work in the context of cardiovascular health will also be discussed. The talk will also focus on research on in-ear microphones (in earables) for physiological monitoring and the potential and future avenues of these new wearable forms for non invasive health monitoring.
