This lecture considers the concept of ‘Academic Citizenship’ as a plausible, and desirable, method for addressing the current British crisis around intellectual labour: defining it, structuring it, governing it. By connecting scholarly work with the idea of a polis and its reciprocity of rights, responsibilities, and identity, the idea of citizenship offers one way towards developing a more robust future University.
