Sir John Tomlinson, Humanitas Visiting Professor in Vocal Music 2015, will give a lecture on the construction of the role of Wotan in Wagner’s Ring cycle, the role with which he made his debut on the Bayreuth stage. He will be in conversation with Patrick Carnegy, author of Wagner and the Art of Theatre (Yale University Press, 2006). Sir Tomlinson’s lecture will be illustrated by his performance of a selection of Wotan’s music in the Ring, accompanied by James Coleman. This event is free and open to all. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
