I will talk about my recent work (with Fernando Marques) where we used Min-max Theory to settle some old open questions in Geometry: The Willmore conjecture – proposed 50 years ago, the Freedman—He—Wang conjecture for links – proposed 20 years ago (jointly with Ian Agol), and the existence of infinitely many minimal hypersurfaces in manifolds of positive Ricci curvature, which partially answers a question posed by Yau 30 years ago.

This talk is part of the Special DPMMS Colloquium series.
