Abstract
In this seminar I will present some results about the characterization of disordered structures and I will discuss some ideas concerning the challenging task of distinguishing between randomness and complex forms of structural organization. This work is based on recent results on the structural properties of granular packings obtained by combining X-ray micro tomography on experimental samples and discrete element method simulations.
