DESCRIPTION:In this seminar I will present some results about the characte
 rization of disordered structures and I will discuss some ideas concerning
  the challenging task of distinguishing between randomness and complex for
 ms of structural organization.\nThis work is based on recent results on th
 e structural properties of granular packings obtained by combining X-ray m
 icro tomography on experimental samples and discrete element method simula
 tions.\n\n
