Reproducible Brain Charts: Accelerating Studies of Brain Development with Open Science
- 👤 Speaker: Dr Ted Satterthwaite, University of Pennsylvania

Abstract
Major mental illnesses are increasingly understood as disorders of brain development. Neuroimaging studies of brain development can help track healthy brain maturation – and may have the potential to identify deviations from normal development linked to mental illness. However, large samples are required to capture reliable neurodevelopmental patterns and define links to psychopathology. Open sharing of such large-scale data resources dramatically amplifies returns on scientific investments. However, the process of aggregating, curating, harmonizing, and sharing large-scale data present many obstacles. This talk will focus on the rationale, challenges, and lessons learned from the Reproducible Brain Charts (RBC) initiative: an open data resource for psychiatry and the developing brain.
