Ferhat Mehenni is a Kabyle politician, author and singer. He is the founder and president of the Gouvernement Provisoire Kabyle, based in Paris. Ferhat has a long history of Human Rights and Berber cultural activism in Algeria. His books include Algérie: la question kabyle (2004), Le Siècle Identitaire; La fin des Etats post-coloniaux (2010) and most recently Kabylie: Mémorandum pour l’indépendance (2017). Before becoming more of an activist, his music was influential in the emergence of the chanson Kabyle moderne in the 1970s and 80s.
