Defending the Public University: a discussion of the Alternative White Paper for Higher Education Monday 20 June, 17.00-19.00 Room 2, Mill Lane Lecture Theatres map: https://goo.gl/7uLI3v Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/118031068621543/ Join us for this panel and Q&A hosted by Cambridge UCU to discuss the Government’s Higher Education White Paper, its sweeping plans to turn universities into privatised and marketised hubs for the ‘knowledge economy’, and more positively, how we can develop alternative visions of the value and future of higher education in the UK. Our four speakers, including two contributors to ‘The Alternative White Paper for Higher Education’, will discuss the likely impact of the government’s proposed reforms to UK universities, the Teaching Excellence Framework, the implications of the White Paper for underrepresented groups, and how we might find a way forward. Each speaker will deliver some introductory remarks, to be followed by an open Q&A and discussion. Attendees may wish to consult ‘The Alternative White Paper for Higher Education’ beforehand.
