Peter Fry, Public Affairs Manager, High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd will speak about the proposed high-speed railway linking London and the North. The proposed line will run between London Euston, the Midlands, Yorkshire, North West England, and potentially North East England and Central Scotland. HS2 will revolutionise our railways, create thousands of jobs, bring major cities closer together, generate investment in neglected areas and provide passengers with an unprecedented travel experience, bringing the UK’s Victorian railway infrastructure dramatically into the 21st century. Peter’s talk will explain why HS2 is needed, where it goes, what’s involved and where we are at the moment. Peter Fry is currently Public Affairs Manager at HS2 Ltd, the company taking forward the planning and delivery of the new high speed railway line. Peter previously worked on the Crossrail and Thames Tideway Tunnel programmes. He has a comprehensive knowledge of major infrastructure projects and the multi-layered consultation and engagement required to promote their benefits throughout the consents process and beyond. Date: Wednesday 10th June 2015 Time: Refreshments served from 18.30. Talk starts at 19.00. Ends by 21:00 following questions and discussion. Venue: Institute for Manufacturing, Cambridge University, Alan Reece Building, 17 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge CB3 0FS (directions). Parking: Car parking arrangements have changed and all car parks now have barriers. We have been asked to use Car Park 8 at the western end of Charles Babbage Road (past Materials Science and Metallurgy) see map. Someone will be at the car park entrance until just before the talk starts to let you in and give you a permit and the exit code. Free to attend. Booking not required. All welcome. This talk is open to the public and is suitable for young people, students and engineers. You are encouraged to pass on this invitation and bring with you colleagues, friends and family who are interested in engineering, economics, public policy and railways.
