Chen Yinke was a prominent Chinese historian, and he was regarded as oneof the most noted scholars of Chinese humanities in the 20th century. After hebecame blinded in his fifties, he still published a number of path-breakingworks, which made him a legend. Throughout his life, Chen Yinke lived with a tension between his ownpersonal intellectual ideal and the turbulence of his era. His intellectuallife has been shaped by his political, cultural, and family backgrounds. Duringthis talk, Dr. Chen Huaiyu would like to share his ideas with audience abouthow Chen Yinke and his contemporaries responded the challenges from thepolitical, cultural, and academic crisis during the 20th century.
