If you have a question about this talk, please contact Susan Larsen. Free public screening of eccentric Russian musical comedy CHAPITEAU-SHOW (2010, dir. Sergei Loban). The film comprises four short film novellas that will screen at 2, 3, 4 and 5 pm this Saturday. Stop by to watch one, two, three or all four episodes about the adventures of an eccentric group of ‘beautiful losers’ who meet in a mysterious circus tent on the Black Sea coast. Featuring quirky song-and-dance numbers created by the Karamazov Twins in pomo homage to Elvis, Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury, as well as performances by punk legend Petr Mamonov and a masterful impersonator of megastar Victor Tsoi, the film has won both critical and popular acclaim as a ‘fiercely inventive and light-hearted epic that gleefully breaks all the rules’. Characters from the foreground of one story wander through the background of another, but each novella is a self-contained episode that stands alone. In Russian with ENGLISH SUBTITLES . The screening is supported by a grant from the Russkiy Mir Foundation. Watch the film’s trailer here This talk is part of the Slavonic Film and Media Studies series.
