If you have a question about this talk, please contact cfi. A high-profile panel considers the immigration debate from a diverse variety of angles. David Goodhart (Director, Demos), Habib Rahman (Chief Executive, Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants), Dr Michael Kitson (University of Cambridge), and Sarah Fine (King’s College London) tackle the complex and dividing issues surrounding the debate on immigration. Immigration has become a major and divisive issue which dominates the media and elections – perhaps more so now than ever before. Yet despite the emotive positions on various sides of the argument, debate frequently lacks the thoughtfulness or objectivity that such an important topic demands. This panel discussion brings together experts from a range of backgrounds and positions, who will cut through the slogans and politicking to reveal a more objective picture of immigration policy in 2013. The event will involve an in-depth Q&A, enabling the audience to engage in the debate and ask questions of a panel with wide-ranging understandings of the issues at hand. Panellists: David Goodhart (Director, Demos) • Author of ‘The British Dream: Successes and Failures of Post-War Immigration’ (Atlantic, 2013) Habib Rahman (Chief Executive, Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants) • Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) is an independent national charity which exists to campaign for justice in immigration, nationality and refugee law and policy Dr Michael Kitson (Lecturer in International Macroeconomics, Judge Business School, Cambridge) • Hub Director of the UK-Innovation Research Centre and Assistant Director of the Centre for Business Research Sarah Fine (Lecturer in Moral and Political Philosophy, King’s College London) • Author of ‘Immigration and the Right to Exclude’ (OUP, Forthcoming) The event is free but booking in advance is required.
