Tom Rippin (CEO, On Purpose) will give an introduction to Social Enterprise, revealing the meaning behind this latest buzzword and explaining how the sector works and the challenges it faces at present. ‘Real-life’ successful social entrepreneurs and what they have accomplished will be showcased in Tom’s explanation of On Purpose’s contribution to Social Enterprise. After a 30min presentation there will be a chance for discussion and opportunity to mingle over drinks & nibbles with Tom, the Beyond Profit Committee and other socially-minded people in Cambridge. Tom is the CEO of On Purpose, an organisation running one-year, full time leadership programmes with work placements, training and mentoring for Social Entrepreneurs in-training. Tom transitioned into the Social Enterprise space after years researching cancer and then at McKinsey & Co. He has advised the CEO of Comic Relief on private sector matters and also worked at (RED), the business founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver to help eliminate AIDS in Africa, where he was Managing Director for Europe and Director of Business Development for (RED) International. As well as running On Purpose, Tom is the Chairman of Spice, and a non-executive director at the Shaftesbury Partnership. Tom’s experience in the sector means this is a fantastic opportunity to gain solid groundwork knowledge on Social Enterprise and have your questions answered.
