The talk is about the conceptual foundations of the special theory of relativity (STR), which although mathematically correct have been physically misinterpreted for a hundred years.

Dr Svein Otto Kanstad is giving a talk on special relativity TONIGHT at 7:30pm; Pharmacology Lecture Theatre.

FREE ENTRY , REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED

The talk is about the conceptual foundations of the special theory of relativity, which although mathematically correct have been physically misinterpreted for a hundred years. His ideas revolutionise the concept of Special Relativity with beautifully simple thought experiments (he’s proven them with some mathematics too).

There will be some maths, and there will be some philosophy; and since this is new work (currently in publication), it initially appears to contradict Einstein’s ideas, and hence teachings in the NatSci Tripos. Come and find out where the field of Special Relativity could be heading!

Remember that this talk is open to all, and is free to attend. He’s an inspirational speaker, and there will be an opportunity to mingle and network afterwards.

Free entry, all are welcome. Refreshments provided.

I am an independent scientist with a doctorate in laser physics. Working out of my own R&D company in Norway I have developed a number of infrared sensor technologies with wide applications in science and technology, and have established a few companies to bring such technologies to the market. Right now I am mostly concerned with the development of superior infrared gas sensors for energy savings, indoor air quality and other uses, based on new and innovative patents. This practical work provides an economic base which allows me to make excursions into the fundaments of physical theory. —Dr Svein Otto Kanstad
