If you have a question about this talk, please contact nobody. This powerful documentary explores the history and challenges of the world’s largest tropical wetland. Featuring insights from scientists, Indigenous leaders, and local communities, the film highlights the climate crisis, agricultural shifts, and the transformation of the Cerrado, all of which are disrupting the region’s water cycle. The film stars Department of Geography Masters in Conservation Leadership alumna Luciana Leite – now with the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) – as one of its highlighted environmentalists. “In addition to reflecting much of what I learned on conservation during my time at the University of Cambridge, the documentary reveals how we, humans, continue to indiscriminately alter natural landscapes like the Pantanal, the world’s largest wetland, negatively impacting the environment and all its inhabitants – both human and non-human. At the same time, the film also sends a message of hope, showing that this destruction can be stopped, if we put our minds, hearts, funds and efforts towards it”, says Luciana Leite. The screening, hosted by the MPhil in Conservation Leadership team, will conclude with a discussion, offering attendees a chance to meet Luciana and engage with panelists on environmental issues and the role of communication in combating the climate crisis. Undergraduate members of the department are very welcome to attend. This talk is part of the Department of Geography - other talks series.
