Paradigm shift of Manufacturing in China and its impact on climate change

China is a global manufacturing powerhouse, producing over half of the world’s steel, aluminum, and cement, and contributing approximately 30% of global manufacturing value added. However, manufacturing remains the largest source of heat-trapping emissions in the country.

To achieve carbon neutrality, China must accelerate industrial decarbonization after 2030, when emissions are projected to peak. This seminar will explore the opportunities and challenges associated with decarbonizing China’s manufacturing sector. It will present case studies from key heavy industries, such as steel and aluminum, and analyze the potential impacts of carbon reduction initiatives.

The discussion will also focus on how industrial enterprises in China can transition their net-zero commitments from ambition to actionable strategies, transforming carbon neutrality obligations into economic opportunities.
