The “patent thicket” strategy adopted by multinational companies is often costly and difficult to enforce, hence not necessarily viable for start-ups. Yet, young companies must leverage their IP portfolio as a competitive advantage, especially in this post-recessionary world. What creative and pragmatic approaches can they take?
