Azadeh Akbari is the co-director of the Surveillance Studies Network and the founder and director of the Surveillance in the Majority World Network. This network aims to expand the scope of surveillance studies to include non-Western discourses and practices and create a place for exchange, collaboration, and activism against the undemocratic use of surveillance technologies. In this talk, Azadeh will draw attention to emerging discourses and perspectives on algorithmic governance from the majority world and focus on questions of surveillance and democracy.
