Environmental consequences of Russia's war in Ukraine

Eugene Simonov, an expert and founding member of the Ukraine War Environmental Consequences Work Group (UWEC) will talk about direct and indirect environmental consequences of the war in Ukraine, including chemical pollution, ecosystem and biodiversity destruction, changes in environmental and climate policies in Ukraine, Russia, and other countries in the world, the war’s impact on international cooperation in the area of environmental protection and climate. Presentation will also feature the case-study on environmental consequences of the destruction of the dam at Kakhovska Hydroelectric Power Plant and nature conservation aspects of the Ukraine’s green reconstruction.

The lecture is organised by the Cambridge Russian-Speaking Society. Eugene Simonov has been invited by Dr Sayana Namsaraeva, Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit. Dr Olga Tutubalina, Dr Liz Walsh and Dr Morgan Ip are helping on SPRI side.
