CCHSR Annual Lecture 2022 Digital technologies offer real potential to support the effective and efficient delivery of health and care, yet the promised benefits always seem just out of reach. “Digital transformation” is a stated ambition of the NHS at national, regional and local level, but what does this mean in practice, and how should we integrate technology into something that remains a fundamental interaction between human beings? This lecture will explore what “digital healthcare” really means, and how a misunderstanding of the benefits that technology can and cannot achieve is preventing us from realising the full potential of digital development and innovation.
