Our work examines behavioral approaches (e.g., extinction) that may reduce fear expression after memory consolidation. From a translational perspective, identifying whether an individual might respond well to one intervention over another could prove important to treatment outcomes, so we have begun examining whether we can establish a rat’s extinction phenotype prior to treatment. Direct exposure to events is not the only way that individuals form valenced associations. Information may be inferred about one’s environment through interactions with conspecifics. Our work also examines factors that affect social transmission of information between rats.
