New developments in electron microscopy and spectroscopy have breathed new life into the study of optical phenomena at sub-wavelength scales. In this talk, I will illustrate the interest of these technological advances in probing optics at the nanometer scale, ranging from three-dimensional phonon imaging to the study of strong phonon-plasmon coupling and the characterization of optical absorption and emission in TMDs.
