Seeing your child having a difficult time sharing his toys with other kids can be frustrating. However, it is very important to stay calm and realize that a lot of children struggle to share their items. If you are patient with your little one and encourage him to share his belongings, he will be on the right track. Here are four ways to teach your child to share.

Provide opportunities to share.

If you want your child to learn how to share, you have to give him opportunities to do so. For instance, consider setting up a play date with other kids in the neighborhood once a week. Before each play date, tell your child how nice it would be if he shared his favorite toys with his friends. Explain how happy all the other kids will be if they get a chance to play with his toys. Also, let your child know that the other kids will share their toys with him.

Model good behavior.

Since children often model what their parents do, it is essential to share in front of your little one. When you are at the dinner table with your family, for example, share part of your meal with your spouse. If your child sees you being generous, he may feel more inspired to share with others.

Give praise.

It is very important to give praise when it is appropriate. If you see your child sharing his toys without being asked, tell him how proud you are of him. You could say something like, “I am so happy you shared your toy with Bobby! I know it made him very happy.” If you regularly praise your child for sharing, it will reinforce the behavior.
