The John Ray Society is delighted to welcome Dr Sir Venki Ramakrishnan. Dr Ramakrishnan is not only the current President of the Royal Society (the independent scientific academy of the UK), but also a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009 for studies of the structure and function of the ribosome, a cellular structure involved in protein synthesis. He is currently a Group Leader at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology here at Cambridge. Dr Ramakrishnan will be discussing his esteemed career in a talk entitled ‘My Adventures in the Ribosome’, which will begin in the McGrath Centre at 6:30PM with refreshments beforehand.

As we anticipate many to be interested in attending this event, both students and staff, we would advise arriving early as the McGrath Centre does have a maximum occupancy for health and safety reasons. We hope that many of you will join us for this occasion to hear from such a prestigious scientist.

This talk is part of the St Catharine's College John Ray Society. series.
