PROJECT OVERVIEW With a view to informing the work of the UN Human Rights Committee in drafting General Comment 37 on the right of peaceful assembly (Article 21 ICCPR ), the European Centre for Non-Profit Law (ECNL) is working together with the Centre of Governance & Human Rights (CGHR) at the University of Cambridge and the University of East Anglia Law School to convene an expert workshop focusing on the potential for exercising this right online. This workshop will be held at the CGHR on 2-3 December 2019.

ECNL , UEA Law School and CGHR are recruiting a small team of researchers to undertake a broad review of relevant materials and produce a substantive online ‘Research Pack’. This will be made available to workshop participants and members of the UN Human Rights Committee. The research team will also produce a short briefing note to help frame the final Workshop agenda.

More details here:

TIMING/COMMITMENT The Research Team will be convened in late-October, and individual responsibilities assigned shortly afterwards. From this point, the time commitment required will probably be in the region of 4-5 hrs per week. Submission of the briefing note and final contributions to the Research Pack will be required by 25 November 2019.

APPLICATIONS Applicants will ideally be graduate students (M.Phil., L.L.M., Ph.D.). A research interest in international human rights law and/or technology/social media would be well-suited.

Please send a letter of motivation and a short CV to Eleanor Salter ( before 9am on Friday 25 October 2019.

Successful applicants will be invited to an initial planning meeting, at which individual responsibilities within the project will be discussed. Because of the large number of applicants anticipated and the short timescale involved, regrettably only successful applicants will be contacted.
