If you have a question about this talk, please contact E Allen. Effective conservation requires an understanding of the state of biodiversity (which species are most threatened, where do they occur), the pressures upon it (what factors drive declines in populations and the loss of habitats), and the responses required (which actions are most urgent, where are they needed). Using examples of recent and ongoing research at BirdLife, I will illustrate the type of science that is informing the conservation programmes of the BirdLife Partnership.
