DESCRIPTION:Recently\, every planned construction of NPPs in Korea has bee
n\nofficially canceled and so has the development of the Prototype SFR\nan
 d its annexed proliferation-resistant fuel recycling technology\,\npyropro
 cessing\, by newly-elected Korean president who stubbornly\npursues anti-n
uclear policy agendas. Instead of\n“gone-with-the-wind-and-solar” clos
ed-fuel cycle researches\, now\nwe are glimpsing “alternative” researc
h topics during this\nincoming “nuclear winter”\, which are the center
piece of this\ntalk. Selected ongoing research projects in Ulsan National
Institute\nof Science and Technology (UNIST) to be introduced are: 1) Deg
radation\nMechanism Modeling of Neutron Absorber in Spent Nuclear Fuel (SN
F)\nPool\; 2) Development of Alternative UO2 Stoichiometry Measurement Met
 hodology for Nuclear Material Accounting (NMA)\; 3) Physics-based 3D-FEM F
uel Performance Code Development for Utility\, sponsored by the Korea Hydr
o & Nuclear Power (KHNP)\; and 4) High Burnup Irradiation Resistance of Ad
vanced Ferritic/Martensitic (F/M) Steel Claddings in Gen-IV Nuclear Reacto
