DESCRIPTION:Professor Dame Sally Davies was appointed Chief Medical Office
 r (CMO) for England and Chief Medical Advisor to the UK Government in Marc
 h 2011\, having held the post on an interim basis since June 2010. Profess
 or Dame Sally Davies is an independent advisor to the UK Government on med
 ical matters\, with particular responsibilities regarding Public Health. F
 rom 2004-2016\, Professor Dame Sally Davies was the Chief Scientific Advis
 er (CSA) for the Department of Health (DH)\, where she was actively involv
 ed in NHS R&D from its establishment and founded the National Institute fo
 r Health Research (NIHR). In 2013\, Dame Sally became a Non-Executive Dire
 ctor of Genomics England Ltd\, to sequence 100\,000 whole genomes from NHS
  patients by 2017. Professor Dame Sally Davies received her DBE in 2009. S
 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 2014 and a member of the Nat
 ional Academy of Medicine\, USA in 2015.\n\nThe talk will be focusing on b
 ig data and on genomics as an example for the potential use of big data fo
 r patient benefit. It will also discuss research funding.\n\nMembers: Free
