DESCRIPTION:Enveloped viruses acquire their membrane coat from
host cells and rely on cellular machinery to faci
litate envelopment and egress of virus progeny. Du
 ring my PhD\, I examined egress-related interactio
ns between host cell factors and proteins of two v
iruses\, hepatitis D virus (HDV) and herpes simple
x virus 1 (HSV-1). Using structural and biochemica
 l techniques\, I investigated the interaction betw
een the large antigen of HDV and the trafficking p
rotein clathrin. Only few interactions between HSV
-1 and cellular proteins promoting viral egress a
re known. Using unbiased screening\, I identified
novel binding partners of the HSV-1 protein UL56.\
