SUMMARY:Resilience vs Vulnerability to Compulsion: behavioral\, neurochemi
cal and psychopharmacological evidences in rats selected by Schedule-induc
ed polidipsia - Dr Margarita Moreno\, Tenured Lecturer\, Psychology Depart

DESCRIPTION:Compulsive behaviour is present in different psychiatric disor
ders such as OCD\, schizophrenia and drug abuse. In our laboratory we inve
stigate a compulsive phenotype of rats\, selected by Schedule-Induced Poly
dipsia (SIP).This procedure\, characterized by the development of nonregul
atory excessive drinking under intermittent food reinforcement schedules\,
has been previously proposed as a successful model for obsessive–compul
sive disorder (OCD)\, schizophrenia\, and alcohol abuse. The lecture revie
w our main findings in High compulsive drinker rats (HD) versus Low drinke
r rats (LD) on SIP\; through the assessment of individual differences in
other behaviours related to compulsive spectrum disorders\, psychopharmaco
logy\, brain neurochemistry and receptors. These studies contribute to elu
cidate the mechanisms underlying the vulnerability to compulsion \, improv
ing our knowledge of possible new markers and insights for potential treat
ments on compulsive behaviours in neuropsychiatric populations.
