DESCRIPTION:Free boundary minimal surfaces are natural variational objects
  studied first by Courant in the 40s. On the other hand\, very few explici
 t examples are known in the simplest setting of the round three ball.  I
 ’ll describe some new high genus examples coming from variational princi
 ples.
