DESCRIPTION:In these lectures Professor Honneth will reconstruct the very 
 different roles played by ‘recognition’ in the three different philoso
 phical contexts of Britain (Hume\, Smith\, Mill)\, of France (Rousseau and
  Sartre)\, and of Germany (Kant\, Fichte\, Hegel).\n\n*Axel Honneth* is Di
 rector of the Institut für Sozialforschung and Professor of Philosophy at
  the Goethe University of Frankfurt\, and Jack C. Weinstein Professor of t
 he Humanities in the Department of Philosophy at Columbia University\, New
  York.\n\nThe Seeley Lectures are given every two years\, and form the pre
 mier lecture series of the Centre for Political Thought. They are open to 
 all\, free of charge. There will be a drinks reception in Clare College af
 ter the first lecture\, to which everyone is invited.
