DESCRIPTION:In Spring of 2015\, the quantum photonic platform has welcomed
  new solid-state members - the two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals crystals
 . Like their relatives\, which include man-made artificial atoms and fluor
 escent defects occurring in solids\, 2D crystals offer unique properties a
 nd present scientists with a new perspective. In this talk\, I will concen
 trate on the 2D semiconducting transition-metal chalcogenides and explore 
 with you our current understanding of these new quantum emitters and their
  relation to local strain fields.
